Description
An online Beginner’s workshop, where you will learn about the role of the daff drum in Islamic history, try out several daff beats and learn how to apply them to your favorite nasheeds and make new friends while at it!
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to apply the daff beat to at least 3 nasheeds (2 provided by the instructor and 1 chosen by the student).
Sessions
Week 1 – History of the daff, its healing aspect, how to hold the daff, introduction to basic beat stroke
Week 2 – forming the beats and playing at different paces, singing practice, applying the beats to the nasheeds
Week 3 – Continuing to apply the beats to the nasheeds, teamwork and performing in teams (healthy competition!)
Week 4 – Playing an enhanced beat on the nasheeds
Week 5 – Applying the beat to the learner’s chosen nasheed, teaching extra tips and creativity with the daff
Course Requirements
Classes last approximately 1.5 hours each. Live attendance is required and students will need to be on camera. Sessions will not be recorded. Tech requirements for this online class:
1. Access to reliable internet. An internet speed of at least 2 Mbps is recommended for best performance.
2. Headphones, camera and microphone will be required for in-class participation.
3. Live classes can be viewed on a computer or handheld device using the Zoom app.

Registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Maximum 12 participants per class
Pre-Requisites: Learners will be asked to sing or at least ‘hum’ to the rhythm of the Nasheeds to demonstrate application of the beat on the Nasheeds. Handouts and Youtube Clips will be provided before the session for students to familiarize themselves with the Nasheeds and the rhythms InshaAllah.
Course Materials needed: Daff Drum/Instrument (See/Purchase Online: Frame Drum)
Ideally the learners will have a Daff Frame Drum but if they don’t, they can use:
– Darbuka
– Djembe
– Round Plastic Plate
– Round Plastic or cardboard box
– Metal Pot
ABOUT INSTRUCTOR
Robina Din, the founder of Mystic Beats, first developed her passion for singing when she was only 8 years old performing a variety of naats at her local Urdu School. Since then, her journey continued and she developed an interest in playing the Daff frame drum. She was soon noticed by her peers who encouraged her to teach Inshaad and the Daff drum and this led to the birth of Mystic Beats.
Through Mystic Beats, Robina has been providing vocal skills sessions in several languages and Daff frame drum workshops for more than 15 years in person throughout the UK and online across the globe.
